The British Ambassador to Kosovo, Ruairi O’Connell, said Kosovo cannot set up an international war crimes tribunal.
In a live chat session on Facebook, O’Connell was asked about the initiative of the Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli for the establishment of an international tribunal to try Serbian war crimes in Kosovo, to which he said:
“When you speak about an international tribunal for Serb crimes and genocide, I am a bit concerned about the terminology. Kosovo has a judicial system that can try crimes committed in the territory of Kosovo, why don’t you use that? Kosovo cannot create an international tribunal. Kosovo has its own courts which should have an interest for trying crimes committed during the war. And they are completely empowered to do so,” O’Connell said.
