Most news websites report that Damon Wilson, executive vice president of the Atlantic Council, during his visit to Pristina today has met with President Hashim Thaci, Assembly President Kadri Veseli and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj. President Thaci wrote on a Twitter post after the meeting: “It was a good meeting with @AtlanticCouncil’s Congressional visitors. We must cooperate on creating the very infrastructure of Atlantic integration of Kosovo, and AC is an excellent partner in this endeavor”. In another post on Facebook, President Thaci is quoted as saying that “the lack of an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia could have consequences for security and stability in the region and pave way to anti-European elements”. Veseli wrote in a Facebook post: “I had a substantial discussion with representatives of the Atlantic Council and the U.S. Congress administration on Kosovo and developments in the region. We focused on the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, and I highlighted our commitment to reach a legally-binding and comprehensive agreement that would bring mutual recognition and Kosovo’s membership to the UN, EU and NATO. In this respect, we expect the U.S. to play a more active role in supporting this process. I thanked our friends from the Atlantic Council for their contribution so far and I asked them for support in the areas of public information and strategic planning. I also briefed them about my initiative in transitional justice explaining that shedding light on the past and establishing justice for Serbia’s crimes would serve the conclusion of conflict and inter-ethnic reconciliation”. Haradinaj said after meeting Wilson that Kosovo was building its capacities to push forward its North-Atlantic agenda so that it can become a member of NATO and assume an active role for peace and security in the region and beyond. “A fruitful meeting with representatives of the Atlantic Council from Washington, led by executive vice president Damon Wilson, where I briefed them on achievements in Kosovo, especially in the rule of law area and increased security. Kosovo is ready to reach a peace agreement with Serbia, but never by violating its constitution or threatening our territory. Our highest objective is consolidating our state and the support of the U.S. in this respect remains crucial,” Haradinaj said. Wilson is quoted as saying in Indeksonline that he was pleased to be in Kosovo and that the Atlantic Council would engage even more in the U.S. to raise awareness and support for Kosovo. He also said he would help Kosovo with the best expertise on the process of dialogue.
