The Belgrade based Danas daily awarded two journalists for being professional in “all but easy time for media,” the newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The editor of the KoSSev website from North Kosovo’s Mitrovica town Tatjana Lazarevic and an editor of the BIRN website and a journalist with the Vreme weekly Slobodan Georgijev will receive “Stanislav Stasa Marinkovic” award on June 9, upon the occasion of the Danas’ anniversary.

“Their courage, above all in the professional work, but also in public appearances, revives belief in the profession which, due to the undemocratic regime in Serbia, is on its knees,” said a jury’s statement.

The two, according to the jury, Lazarevic and Georgijev led teams of young, dedicated journalists and that’s why the recognition was not only for them but also for all the reporters who followed them in the struggle for truth and professionalism.

The “Stanislav Stasa Marinkovic” award was firstly granted by the former dailies Borba and Nasa Borba, and since 2000 by Danas.

Marinkovic was the editor-in-chief of the Borba daily, one of the architects of free journalism in Serbia and the president of the Association of Serbia’s Journalists.
