The European Union Office in Kosovo announced that it was cancelling a EUR 12 million project to construct hazardous waste storage in Kosovo after local authorities failed to support the project.
In a statement, the EU said the project foresaw the construction of a storage for hazardous waste that would be in line with EU standards and was included in Kosovo action plans on environment and waste management. It was also part of EU Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) 2015 Programme.
The government on its part had to ensure that the project for is approved by the Fushe Kosova/Kosovo Polje Municipal Assembly.
“The Municipal Assembly however rejected the establishment of the facility on its territory, leaving the EU in Kosovo with no option but to cancel the project,” EU said adding that it regretted cancellation of the project which was supposed to provide a solution for proper storage of hazardous waste.
