Representatives of an association of missing persons from Kosovo – “Perkore” – are suggesting that the import tariff on Serbian goods should be conditioned with shedding light on the fate of missing persons from the conflict in Kosovo. Latif Mehmeti, chairman of the association, told Koha Ditore that democratic countries and international organizations would accept the idea. On the 20th anniversary of the end of the conflict, he criticized Kosovo’s institutions for not doing anything to resolve the fate of the missing. He was also critical of leaders of institutions saying that they mentioned missing persons only in election campaigns. “The 20th anniversary of the end of the war finds Kosovo at a hopeless crossroads for families of missing persons. While the President of Kosovo sets up a committee for reconciliation with Serbia, the Assembly President suggests forming a war crimes committee and an international tribunal for Serbia’s crimes in Kosovo. All these initiatives have in a way undermined the issue of the missing persons,” Mehmeti added.
