Several news websites cover today’s protest by civil society organizations in Pristina against the draft law on the funding of political parties. Telegrafi quotes Valmir Ismaili from the organization D+ as saying that they have suspended their activities in the advisory group that works on the draft law. He said they would return to the ad-hoc committee and present their recommendations only if the government or the assembly withdraw the draft law. “Today we were supposed to present our recommendations for a better electoral system in Kosovo. However, seeing what has happened with the draft law on the funding of political parties, we have decided to temporarily suspend our activities in the working group,” he said. Ismaili added that if the draft law is voted in the assembly, they will address the Constitutional Court or ask the President of Kosovo not to decree the law. “If the draft law is not withdrawn, we will continue our activities, we will meet with local and international political actors. If the Assembly adopts the draft law, we have several options: seek an interpretation by the Constitutional Court, but before doing this, we would ask the President not to decree the law because we believe it is in great contradiction with the Constitution,” he added. Arberesha Logja from the Group for Legal and Political Studies, called on the government to withdraw the draft law, arguing that it is not in line with the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
