We can only turn the tables on those who systematically harass and attack women journalists if – instead of retreating into silence – we give them hell instead.
If you want to discredit a male journalist in the Balkans, just spread the word that he is gay. In a macho environment like ours, he will have a hard time defending himself and his supposed masculinity from the prying eyes.
If you want to do the same to a woman journalist, call her a slut, or a dumb blonde who has succeeded professionally thanks to her loose morals. Once you have compromised her moral reputation, you are free to pursue the systematic harassment of your target.
