Mitrovica South Mayor Agim Bahtiri said in an interview to RTV Dukagjini today that, “Serbia’s plan is to claim a disaster in the northern part of Kosovo and report it at the United Nations Security Council so that the north can be under the supervision of UNMIK”. Bahtiri’s said Serbia will fail in this attempt. “Together with the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the Ministry of Trade and Industry we are responding firmly to the crisis … We stayed up until late last night appealing to business people, supermarkets and all that are in coordination with the Republic of Kosovo, to send goods to the north, so that no one can claim that Serbs are faced with an economic crisis or a disastrous blockade. We are willing to contribute. There are more mobile shops and Serbia’s plan will fail, both publicly and in the media. Their goal was always to claim there is an ‘economic disaster’ and report it to the Security Council so that UNMIK can then manage that area. But we are willing to cover the region with mobile shops and people can buy any products that they want,” he said.
