Serbian general can’t stand Kosovo’s presence, quits meeting in Brussels

General Predrag Bandic, Head of the Serbian delegation, could not stand presence of the Kosovo officials at the meeting for normalisation of aviation in the Balkans, which was held in Brussels.

This happened at the moment when Deputy Defence Minister of the Republic of Kosovo Burim Ramadani and Director of the Civil Aviation Authority Eset Berisha started their discussions.

“Such behaviour by the Serbian General does not contribute to the joint regional approach for normalisation of aviation in the Balkans. I express my regret for this action,” Ramadani said.

Trial of war crimes suspect, Djokic, begins

Zoran Djokic, suspected of war crimes in Kosovo, appeared before the Court in Prishtinë/Pristina on Thursday.

At the initial hearing session, Djokic pledged not guilty on the charges.

According to the charges by the Prosecution Office, during March and April 1999, in Kristal neighbourhood, Pejë/Pec, he caused suffering, intimidation, looting, and committed murders against civilian population.

The war crime suspect Zoran Djokic was arrested in February this year, in Kosovo north.

In May, his detention on remand was extended for two months, and he is still serving the measure in the High Security Prison.

Campaign aiming at reconciliation between communities launched

Three organizations have come together to contribute to improvement of inter-ethnic relations in Kosovo.

Coalition for Reconciliation by the Humanitarian Law Centre in Kosovo, Aktiv, and Art Polis, will aim at achieving sustainable peace and reconciliation in Kosovo.

Executive Director of the Humanitarian Law Centre in Kosovo Bekim Blakaj said that the goal of this cooperation is to shed light on the truth.

This initiative was welcomed and supported by the European Union.

EU officials who attended this conference said that it was important to take such initiatives, and that Kosovo should use as models the different EU countries that have found the path to reconciliation after the bitter past.

Meanwhile, according to the Humanitarian Law Centre, more than 13,000 people are considered killed during the war in Kosovo. Out of them, about 11.000 Albanians and over 2,000 Serbs as well as members of other ethnicities.

Haradinaj: Kosovo and EULEX successes are one

Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said on Thursday that the successes of EULEX and Kosovo are one and in the function of building trust of citizens in the Kosovo’s institutions.

At a farewell meeting with the EULEX chief Alexandra Papadopoulos, he said that Kosovo government is committed to its rule of law path.

“By helping our justice system, you have helped the whole society, and in this process you have always had Government’s support,” said Prime Minister Haradinaj.

Head of EULEX Alexandra Papadopoulou thanked the Prime Minister for the reception and for the cooperation so far with EULEX.

Court of Appeals still dealing with backlogs from 2014, considers its performance successful

In the drawers of the Court of Appeals, there are still unresolved cases from 2014. Nevertheless, the Court officials considered their performance in the first semester of this year as successful.

The Court had about 20,700 unresolved cases, including the cases received during this year, and until now it has dealt with 8,712 cases.

However, the number of backlogs in the Court is larger, namely about 12,000 cases.

President of the Court of Appeals Hasan Shala added that they have been working to resolve the backlogs from five years ago, at latest by November this year. In total there are 1,300 backlogs of the years 2014 and 2015.

Shala explained that those are mostly civil cases, and that there is no prolongation in other areas.
