This morning around 9.00 hrs “Metkos Group” company from Pristina tried again to start the works on the reconstruction of mini-hydro power plant at the place called Oberreke in Strpce. According to KoSSev portal around 50 residents from Strpce gathered at the location to prevent the works and they managed to stop it.

In mid-February this year following two-month protests by the residents the works on the reconstruction of mini-power plant were halted and the caterpillar placed on the stop of Obereke was removed. The municipality of Strpce made decision to halt the works, since the work affected the potable water reservoir, making the water muddy and thus jeopardizing the water supply to the residents. However, this decision was not final, and the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning should make the final decision.

In May, “Metkos Group” company, although decision from the ministry was not made yet, tried to continue the works. Then clash between residents and the police occurred, leaving around 20 Strpce residents injured.

However, this morning few days after the Kosovo Minister for Environment and Spatial Planning Fatmir Matoshi said he cannot change the decision on reconstructing several mini-hydro power plants in other Strpce areas, the company tried to commence the works again.

KoSSev portal reported that citizens dispersed around the noon, however the machinery brought is still on the spot Obereke.
