The news website reports that “two U.S. diplomats, Edward Joseph and Daniel Serwer, believe that early general elections in Kosovo are inevitable following Ramush Haradinaj’s resignation as Prime Minister”. Joseph said in an interview to Voice of America that the government cannot function partially by replacing Haradinaj with another political figure. “For a highly important issue such as relations between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia, it is crucial for Kosovo to have an elected government that accurately represents the will of the entire people of Kosovo, both Albanians and Serbs. I think it is difficult to continue in the conditions of a semi-vacuum, where a Prime Minister that resigns is replaced by another person, but not through the right political process. In other words, not through regular parliamentary processes but through external factors. I don’t think elections are a problem. Dialogue [with Serbia] is delayed due to the tariff on Serbian goods,” Joseph said. The news website recalls that Serwer too said that after Haradinaj’s resignation the chances of going to early elections are higher than at a time when this was requested by the opposition. “We need to see if this will lead to early elections,” he said.
