Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said the importance of continuing Belgrade-Pristina dialogue was discussed today during her meeting with EU Enlargement and Neighbourly Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn, Radio kontakt plus reported. She also expressed a hope an initiative that would enable Pristina to reconsider its stances and turn towards the regional cooperation would emerge.
“We spoke about the dialogue; how important it is and how many consequences were there because of its interruption. We did not go into details, because it seems that everything was said in this regard. I hope there would be an initiative that would enable Pristina to reconsider its stances and turn towards the regional cooperation, and not towards what I think is a self-isolation. Introduction of tariffs hampers us in central Serbia, but certainly hampers the most people who live in Kosovo,” PM Brnabic said.
Following the meeting, Brnabic said that Serbia would continue to demonstrate the regional cooperation is the only possible way to the future and announced that Belgrade and Skopje would sign bilateral agreements on border cooperation soon.
“Every initiative we are invited to, we will take part in it and send positive messages about further cooperation and reconciliation of the two peoples,” she added.
Commissioner Hahn said he does not want to comment on internal events in Kosovo, but expressed hope elections would soon be held there that would enable to restore Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
He also said the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and reaching a lasting solution are crucial for the progress of the entire region. He noted the outgoing European Commission was dedicated to the region and much was achieved, however, the recent events overshadow that progress. Hahn also said the future EC President Ursula von der Leyen is committed to work on the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
