In an interview with Radio Free Europe, Kosovo MP Ilir Deda said President Hashim Thaci, in consultations with political parties, should announce the date for early general elections and added that there is no room for a technical government following the resignation of Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj.

“President Thaci should, in accordance with the Constitution, make two rounds of consultations. The first is so determine whether there is a possibility for a new majority in the Assembly. We think this is not possible and he should then proceed to announce the date for extraordinary elections. I think these should take place sometime in September,” Deda said.

He noted that Haradinaj at present can only exercise the functions in the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK): “Haradinaj is no longer an outgoing prime minister but only leader of the AAK as he resigned and cannot exercise any government function.”

Deda spoke in favour of opposition parties uniting under one ticket in next elections. “We are all waiting for 3 August, the date of LDK elections, to sit with the new LDK leadership and discuss the possibility of creating a united opposition ticket,” he said adding: “It is final time to demonstrate political maturity in taking on responsibilities by the democratic forces in Kosovo.”
