EU’s High Representative Federica Mogherini has invited Kosovo’s Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli at the meeting of the EU foreign ministers and candidate countries in Helsinki.
Serbian newspaper Novosti, writes that Mogherini wants in this manner to impose to her successor Josep Borrell that Kosovo should be included in the list of the participants in the future meetings of this format.
These meetings which are held every six months, are organized by the EU presider, however the invitations are formally sent by the EU High Representative, in the current case, by Federica Mogherini.
The paper claims based on its sources, that Mogherini has all of a sudden decided on Wednesday to send the invitation to the Foreign Minister of Kosovo Behxhet Pacolli, despite Madrid’s objection.
“The position of Belgrade is that Pristina officials do not belong there in any manner,” the paper notes.
Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said, “he will consult his President Aleksandar Vucic on whether Serbia should participate at the next meeting of the EU foreign ministers and candidate states in Finland.”
“The outgoing High Representative changed the entire concept at the very last moment, therefore partner countries will be at the meeting too. She did this at the end of her mandate, only to enable participation of Kosovo,” Dacic reportedly said.
