The Appeals Court has confirmed the ruling of the Basic Court allowing a 38-year-old woman to undergo a sex-change. The ruling invalidates provisions from the Law on Civil Status of 2011 by upholding the Law on Gender Equality of 2015, the Constitution of Kosovo and the European Convention on Human Rights.
The issue reached the courts in 2017 after the Ministry of Internal Affairs and civil status registry offices refused to make changes to the identity of the woman who currently resides abroad.
