Internal Affairs Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic told Belgrade based TV Pink that the Serbian authorities are talking to every possible country about Pristina’s request to join Interpol.

Stefanovic says that the aim of those contacts was to prevent the “politicization” of the international police organization whose members voted not to grant membership to Kosovo in 2018.

“Pristina should not wait to join Interpol in order to fight crime,” he said and recalled that the Kosovo authorities claimed not to be able to combat crime because “Serbia is preventing them from joining Interpol”. He added that Pristina has access to the organization through the UNMIK mission.

Kosovo’s membership in Interpol would mean that a lot of information would be compromised, the minister said.
