Coalition of NGOs monitoring elections process, Democracy in Action, has issued a press statement saying it has begun preparations for the upcoming elections scheduled for 6 October.
DiA called on political parties to respect the gender quotas when nominating members to the municipal election commissions and also when compiling their ballots.
“Statistics from previous parliamentary elections show that political parties nominated only 25 women (or 9%) of a total of 263 members of the MECs,” DiA said. “Equal participation of women in politics is one of key elements of a democracy which enables legal and social development of the society.”
