Head of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Valdete Daka said in an interview with Radio Free Europe that organising early parliamentary elections will be challenging for the CEC because of the tight timeframe but that she believed it will be a successful process.

“Organising elections is an extraordinary project even for more advanced democracies than that of Kosovo but nevertheless we have managed to organise elections in 30 days and this time we will manage to overcome everything. Having said that, we will most definitely try to eliminate this time all the challenges we faced during election process in 2017,” Daka said.

Speaking about the OSCE’s role in elections, Daka said it will be advisory. “The OSCE will advise Municipal Election Commissions. At the same time, on the voting day, it will be present in polling centres and advise members of polling stations, if necessary.”

Asked about whether the CEC has any special arrangements in organising elections in the northern municipalities, Daka said: “We have successfully organised elections in 2013, in 2014, 2017. Most recently, in May, we had mayoral elections in the northern part and we did not have any significant problems.”
