The news website reports that Sokol Bashota, former deputy commander of the General Staff of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), was interviewed for two days by the specialist chambers as a suspect. Upon his return to Pristina, Bashota told the media that he was concerned because according to him the special court made him an offer that could serve him, but which would be detrimental to the image of the KLA. According to Bashota, he was offered “a deal that would be favorable for me, but it would damage the cause of the KLA and the others”. A spokesman for the Office of the Specialist Prosecutor, Christopher Bennet, told Gazeta Express today that they never shared details or commented on ongoing investigations. “The Office of the Specialist Prosecutor has the authority, among other things, to interview and request the presence of suspects, victims and witnesses, to collect and analyse data and evidence and to decide on the initiation, continuation or conclusion of penal procedures,” Bennet said. “The SPO also aims to hold accountable all individuals for crimes that are covered by our mandate”.
