Kosovo’s outgoing Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, said in a debate in Pristina today that it was good news when “EU High Representative Federica Mogherini was removed from the table of talks, because the idea for border correction or Kosovo’s partition was alive under her leadership”. “When the dialogue was returned to the table of Chancellor Merkel and President Macron returned, and Washington’s engagement through the appointment of Matthew Palmer, were very good decisions because Kosovo’s partition was removed from discussions,” he said. Commenting on the import tariff on Serbian products, Haradinaj said Kosovo needs to tell Europeans and Americans that the tariff will be lifted when Serbia recognises Kosovo’s independence. “We need to explain to both sides that we want to reach an agreement on mutual recognition. Their proposal to suspend the tariff before dialogue can resume, would weaken Kosovo’s position. The tariff will be removed only through recognition,” he said. Haradinaj also said it was not true that Washington called on Kosovo to make a painful compromise. “It is not true that the U.S. asked us to make painful compromises or not to form or army or to lift the tariff. Some local leaders and others from the region went to the U.S. and presented their dangerous ideas there,” Haradinaj said.
