An Albanian flag was placed this morning at an annex of a building under construction, which houses King Milutin Elementary School, as well as Medicine high school and Engineering and Traffic high school, Director of the Engineering Traffic High School told KoSSev portal.

“It was placed this morning when the workers came, so we got organized. The students took poles of construction material, wanted to deal with about fifteen young Albanians who work for that someone. The flag was taken down, we calmed the students and we returned them back to classrooms, and we called the Kosovo Police,” described one of the three principals whose students attend the classes at the facility this morning.

Workers soon retreated to their vans, and after police intervention, two workers were taken for an informative interview.

“When the workers left, the Serbian flag was hung.”

The main contractor also came to the school and promised that he would no longer cooperate with the contractor whose workers had raised the flag.

“We insisted that they do not come to work by Friday, so the situation would calm down a bit,” Petkovic said.

This information was also confirmed by Bratislav Trajkovic, commander of the Gracanica police station, stating that two people had been called for an informative interview and were awaiting further prosecutor’s report, reports KoSSev portal.

KIM radio reports that the principals of the three schools held emergency meeting with the head of the school administration in North Mitrovica, so the radio not yet received a comment.

However, Srdjan Popovic, the mayor of Gracanica Municipality, which finances the construction of the school annex, told RTV Kim that it was a provocation. He stressed that the municipality would insist that the case be resolved as soon as possible.

“Obviously it bothers someone that King Milutin’s school is expanding. It is the largest Serbian school in central Kosovo and what we will insist on is to shed light on this case as soon as possible. There was noticeable anxiety from both parents and children this morning in the schoolyard. I also spoke to them and said that we will always be with them and that we will not allow any kind of provocation now or in the future,” Popovic says and adds that he also spoke with contractors, representatives of the ABC company from Podujevo, which is engaged in the construction of the additional facility within the school.

Mayor of Gracanica declined to comment speculation that the Albanian flag was posted by employees of the hired company, reports KIM radio.
