Unlike previous parliamentary elections when there were delays in forming the new central institutions in Kosovo, political commentators in Pristina predict that there won’t be such delays after the October 6 early parliamentary elections, the news agency reports. Based on the preliminary election results, the Vetevendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo, which won the majority of votes, will try to form the new government. Both parties said they would meet today to start negotiations for forming the new institutions. In the last elections, Vetevendosje leader Albin Kurti and LDK’s candidate for Prime Minister, Vjosa Osmani, were seen as the key candidates for the Prime Minister post. Now that the election outcome favors Vetevendosje’s leader, Osmani said she is willing to cooperate with Kurti in forming a coalition government. “The LDK – LVV coalition has many challenges ahead, but we need to have only one interest in mind: the interest of the citizens of Kosovo,” Osmani wrote in a Facebook post. Ilir Ibrahimi, political commentator, told Radio Free Europe that both parties have shown positive signs for a coalition even before the election and that therefore there should not be delay in forming a new government. “There is also the difficult process of the dialogue with Serbia. This process is expected to begin soon and have a quick outcome because we have seen this even from international representatives that have visited Pristina and the positions of Quint countries. Therefore, I don’t believe the Kosovo political class has the luxury of delays,” he said. Ramush Tahiri, political analyst, said he doesn’t expect delays in the formation of new institutions and that by November a new government should be in place. He said both parties have agreed that the post of Prime Minister belongs to the party that won the highest number of votes and that they now have to approximate their respective programs “and they will get aid from international experts”.
