The news website reports that remarks by Vetevendosje candidate for Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, that he will not cooperate with the Serbian List, are seen by some political commentators as dangerous and with possible long-term consequences. Fatmir Sheholli, executive director of the Institute for Promoting Inter-ethnic Relations, told the news website today that Kurti and whoever leads the new government must respect the Constitution and the legislation in force that regulates inter-ethnic relations. He argues that failing to respect the will of Serbs that voted for the Serbian List, could result in riots in the north and in other mainly Serb inhabited municipalities. He even did not rule out the division of the north. “If we don’t respect the will of the Serb people that voted for the Serbian List, they can set up barricades in the north, divide the north and then what can we do, send the army … this could have terrible consequences. It could also trigger problems in mainly Serb inhabited municipalities in the south too”. Even though the Serbian List is orchestrated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Sheholli says that it is legitimate as long as it does not violate the Constitution of Kosovo. “Kurti should not make political statements, but act in accordance with the legislation force that guarantees the multi-ethnic ethnic character of the state of Kosovo,” he added.
