COVID – 19: 111 new cases, 10 deaths (media)
Kosovo’s National Institute for Public Health said on Sunday that 111 new cases of coronavirus and 10 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. 159 persons have recovered from the virus during this period. The highest number of new cases is from the municipality of Prishtina (25). Lajmi news website reports that 240 people in Kosovo have succumbed to the virus in the last 22 days.
Hoti: Bigger threat from coronavirus infection in September (media)
Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti took to Facebook on Saturday to call on citizens to respect the protective measures against the coronavirus, warning that in September there will be a bigger threat from infection. “September is very near and thousands of pupils and students, their parents and teachers, will be in contact, thus increasing the risk of infection,” Hoti wrote in a Facebook post.
Kosovo – Serbia meeting in Washington confirmed for September 4 (media)
A spokesman for the U.S. National Security Council confirmed to Voice of America that Kosovo and Serbia delegations will meet in Washington on September 4. “We believe that progress on economic issues, including the creation of new jobs and a faster economic growth is the first step in advancing the peace process,” the spokesman said.
Prime Minister Hoti to meet coalition partners today (media)
Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti said he will meet on Monday with coalition partners, LDK leader Isa Mustafa, AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj and NISMA leader Fatmir Limaj, to discuss developments in the process of dialogue and expectations from the upcoming meeting with the Serbian delegation in Washington on September 4. Hoti said he will also meet line ministers and mayors to discuss the management of the coronavirus pandemic and the government’s financial support for the municipalities.
Haradinaj: No bad agreement in Washington (media)
Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) leader Ramush Haradinaj said on Sunday that Kosovo’s delegation must go to the meeting in Washington with a clear demand for mutual recognition with Serbia. “There is no bad agreement in Washington. We can mistakes; but we should not worry about Washington,” Haradinaj said.
Abrashi: President post belongs to LDK (media)
Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) Secretary General Abran Abrashi said on Sunday that leaders of the ruling coalition will discuss on Monday issues related to the dialogue with Serbia and “different positions” on the functioning of the ruling coalition. “The meeting will address all open issues, including the dialogue and the issue of the President … It was never discussed which party should get the post of President, but I believe that the post should belong to the LDK as a state-building party that has given a lot for the country and which has the required number votes in the Assembly
Hoxhaj: Race of political parties over President post, immoral (RTK)
Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) deputy leader Enver Hoxhaj said on Sunday that the race of political parties over the post of Kosovo President is immoral. “We think it is premature and immoral to discuss who will be President of Kosovo at a time when the country has its President and his mandate expires only in spring next year,” Hoxhaj said in an interview with RTK.
Hoxhaj argued that the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), partners in the ruling coalition, should deal with issues concerning the people and not with political deals. “They should focus on the coronavirus pandemic, economic development and other pressing issues, and not who will become president in spring next year,” he said.
