United Nations Mission in Kosovo has condemned attack on the conference that was planned to see the promotion of the new edition of the local magazine “Kosovo 2.0” in relation to equality and discrimination of the gay community.

“This is an attack on freedom of expression. Respect for the law and media freedom is fundamental in achieving durable peace and effective protection of human rights in Kosovo”, said UNMIK’s representative, Farid Zarif.

Speaking about the gay community, Zarif stressed the need for public education against discriminatory practices in this regard.

He also called on authorities to investigate the incident and undertake necessary measures for discouraging “such intolerant behaviours”.

On Friday evening, a group of protesters gathered in front of the youth and sports centre in Pristina and used violence to prevent people from taking part in the magazine’s presentation.
