Top officials of Kosovo’s Government, starting from the President and the Prime Minister, once again intensify the issue of transformation of the Kosovo Security Force into the Armed Forces.

Representatives of the Serbian List argue that no-one talked with them about the formation of the army of Kosovo. They add that the stand of the Serbian list remains the same, i.e. that they are against the transformation.

Kosovo’s President, Hashim Thaci, said that two years ago when the Constitution was changed due to the establishment of the Special Court, Kosovo missed the chance to establish an army. Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, also said that the Army will be established soon and that there are intensified discussions on this issue, adding that the Government of Kosovo will strive to win the support of non-majority communities.

Ljubomir Maric, one of the Serbian ministers in the Government of Kosovo, says that no-one talked with them about the issue. “I really cannot comment on it. I can only say that we care about the implementation of the agreement of the ZSO, i.e. the implementation of the first 6 points of the first Brussels’ agreement and the implementation of the 15 points of what was supposed to represent a legal framework from August last year,” says the minister.

According to Slavko Simic the attitude of the Serbian List is that, in accordance with Resolution 1244, which remains in effect, the only army on the territory of Kosovo can be KFOR. “We did not have discussions with Kosovo’s political representatives, the Prime Minister or with any other from the executive power. In the coming period, the Serbian List for sure will discuss about it. What is very important is that nobody can take a decision that is contrary to the interests of our people who live here and the interests of our Republic of Serbia “, said Simic.

When asked if there is unity among the Serbian representative, he says: “Absolutely. The Serbian list otherwise is unique. We can have a few disagreements at some point; that we do not agree on something, but when it comes to such important issues, we absolutely agree,” said Simic.
