Sokol Havolli, the chief of staff and advisor to Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, in an interview with KTV, commented on Belgrade’s recent ultimatums about former Local Government Minister Ljubomir Maric and the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities. Havolli said the Kosovo government has never functioned based on ultimatums, “especially those coming from the Serbian state”. “Such ultimatums are made for internal consumption, and are also aimed at keeping hostage the Serb population here through nationalism … The Prime Minister has continuously tried to bring Serbs closer to Kosovo’s institutions. Ultimatums are senseless … The decision to dismiss Maric is final and his return is out of the question. As far as the Association [Community of Serb-majority municipalities] is concerned, we will not work according to ultimatums. We will follow the planned steps and work in accordance with the Constitution and the agreement,” Havolli added. He added that the Kosovo government wants to cooperate with all Kosovo Serb representatives. “This has been the objective of the Prime Minister. He has tried to bring the mayors of the northern municipalities closer to Kosovo’s institutions … The Serbian List have nominated the new minister. Now we have a minister that is interested to work with all mayors of municipalities. There can be disagreements between mayors and ministers, but this is common in politics,” he said. Havolli also said that Prime Minister Mustafa has made it clear that the wall in Mitrovica North will be demolished. “We are confident that it will be demolished because it is not part of the plan and the agreement. I cannot comment if the demolition of the wall will produce tensions, but the implementation of law does not cause tensions,” Havolli said.
