Mayor of Mitrovica, Agim Bahtiri, met the head of UNMIK’s Regional Office in Mitrovica, Danilo Rosales Diaz to discuss the overall situation in the municipality, with special emphasis on the security situation. Diaz said that the mutual cooperation between the two institutions is satisfactory and in the benefit of all citizens. He added that UNMIK’s doors are always open for cooperation and will support all activities of the municipality aimed at complete stabilization of the security situation and the improvement of interethnic relations. “Our mission is to work and contribute to the prevention of possible incidents and to support the dialogue that is taking place in Brussels on issues regarding Mitrovica. Our message to all citizens of Mitrovica, has been, is and will be that all possible problems that may arise should be resolved through dialogue and in a peaceful manner, so in this regard we will also coordinate our activities with the municipality that you are heading and the northern municipality headed by Mayor Rakic. It is important that the municipality of South Mitrovica, together with UNMIK and the municipality of North Mitrovica to work together for a calm situation in the best of all communities living in this region,” Diaz said. Mayor Bahtiri thanked Diaz for his cooperation, his interest and support for processes for complete stabilization of the overall situation in the municipality, for peace and security and said he was ready to cooperate for these purposes in the future. He also said the security situation in Mitrovica continues to be stable and improving, despite the problems caused by Serbs with the illegal construction of the wall. “Even though I had some official meetings for another few days in Europe, I came back in order to manage the security situation and not allow weakening of results achieved and the threat of peace by individuals and groups who do not want the best for the city and citizens. All must engage in this direction and I believe that the Mayor of the municipality in the north, Goran Rakic, is interested and is working to this end, even though there may be various obstacles and pressures. All must understand that now is the time for peace and economic development for the benefit of citizens,” Bahtiri said. In the end, Diaz donated a vehicle to the Mayor Agim Bahtiri for the needs of the municipality, in a sign of respect and gratitude for the good and honest cooperation for the benefit of all citizens. Bahtiri thanked Diaz and said that the municipality still needs more vehicles.
