Bajram Qerkini and Milorad Trifunovic, the first one Albanian and the second a Serb, now have their own office in Pristina. They are both representatives of the families of the missing persons during the war in Kosovo, who will be working under the same roof at the Resource Center of the Missing Persons. They symbolically started their work with an appeal for institutions to engage more on shedding light on the fate of more than 1600 missing persons.
“For eighteen years in a row, each day is a day of agony for each of us present here but also for those who are not,” said Qerkini. They informed on this occasion about a conference which will be held by the end of this month in Geneva Switzerland, where Pristina, Belgrade and international officials involved on the matter of the missing persons of Kosovo, are expected to participate.
“Our duty is to make them tell us to our face what have they done for eighteen years to shed light on the fate of the missing and we will also ask them what they will be concretely doing during the next period of time. The most senior representatives of the United Nations for human rights will also be present at Geneva, Switzerland conference,” said Trifunovic.
Qerkini, who just like Trifunovic is from Mitrovica, explained also their request of nominating a commissioner that would deal specifically with the fate of the missing.
“Our request is to have a more powerful body which would pull ears of these stubborn people who would not tell locations. The request of the family members is to nominate a person for human rights in Geneva, which is the case also with other countries.” Qerkini said.
Milorad Trifunovic: “I think that both parties poses information, but the international community possesses information about this entire history the most.”
The all-inclusive meeting on the missing Kosovans, which was discussed at this conference, will be held on 29 and 30 June.
