Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, addressed the media after his meeting with Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, in Brussels today. Thaci said he discussed the possibility of resuming dialogue and its conclusion with the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo. “We need to initiate dialogue and conclude it as soon as possible with an agreement in line with European standards,” Thaci told reporters. “There is now better communication between Serbia and Kosovo, but we are facing a status quo. By keeping one another hostage we are going to damage our citizens. We are two independent and sovereign countries, we need to build good neighborly relations and have mutual recognition,” he added. Asked about discussions in Serbia about reconciliation with Kosovo and its possible division, Thaci said he did not comment because he thinks this is an internal matter of Serbia, “but Kosovo’s independence and its territorial integrity are closed and irreversible matters”. “Every final agreement between the two countries will be in line with the will of the people of Kosovo,” he said. Thaci also said he was confident that the new period will lead to the reconciliation between the two countries and will pave the way to their European future.
