President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, and President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanovic, have come out with a joint statement regarding the border demarcation between Kosovo and Montenegro. Speaking to reporters in Pristina, Thaci called on MPs to ratify the border demarcation agreement reached with Montenegro in 2015.

“On this tenth anniversary of Independence, Kosovo is making important progress recognised by everyone. Recognising the good will of the state of Montenegro and the Kosovo leadership in the last 48 hours and our efforts over two and a half years, I as President of Kosovo and the President of Montenegro came out with a joint statement encouraging the Assembly of Kosovo to ratify the demarcation agreement,” Thaci said. He said he informed Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, Assembly President Kadri Veseli and Quint ambassadors about the statement and that later in the day he will call a meeting with leaders of political parties to discuss the future course of action.

Online media have published a copy of the statement signed by the two presidents in Podgorica bearing today’s date which states that the parties agree to the forming of a working group that will address “possible disagreements” during the actual demarcation process. “The joint group will specifically review and correct sectors in the direction of Cakorr and Kulla e Zhlepit,” the statement reads.
