Local Serbs say that one of these murals actually existed earlier but has been modified and painted now, while the other one was painted a few days ago. These murals on multi-storey buildings of the city show uniformed Serbian soldiers, war vehicles, flag, and symbols of Serbia. It writes in Serbian and Cyrillic alphabet: ‘It is worth dying for this land’… ‘There is no turning back from here’. Through these murals Serb citizens of the north are sending a message that Kosovo is part of Serbia and that Kosovo is worth dying for. News agency Kosovapress citing its sources reports that the authors of these murals are members of the so-called KM-FIRM 028 Sever group acting in Mitrovica North. “This group, consisting mainly of young Serbs, is known for beating Albanians in the north. Moreover, members of this group are aggressive with other groups in an attempt to control their area, thus tensing the already fragile situation in that part,” the source said.
