Rainer Wieland, Vice President of the European Parliament, said in Pristina today that the Parliament has not received any document yet to vote on visa liberalization for Kosovo. Wieland, who is also a high-ranking official in German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s party, advised Kosovo politicians not to make promises for potential visa liberalization dates. “You have a pure and painful history, the same goes for other countries, and every country looks at the world and history from its own perspective, and I don’t want to name specific countries. Many things have to be done. I can see that the country has made progress and we will support you in the work you must do. I don’t see a momentum for a visa document to be submitted to the European Parliament for voting. The European Parliament insists that the requirements must be met. I recommend everyone not to promise that visa liberalization could happen soon,” Wieland said after LDK parliamentary group chief, Avdullah Hoti. The latter said Kosovo authorities must provide concrete evidence about the fight against corruption. “There are some ministers in government now that have indictments but they still keep their posts. This is a bad signal we are sending to Brussels,” Hoti said.
