The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, told today the national broadcaster RTK that Germany’s and Chancellor Angela Merkel’s role is the hope and trust of Kosovo and the entire Western Balkans for the European future. He said that he discussed during the meeting with the German Chancellor Merkel the matter of the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
“I had an excellent meeting with German Chancellor Merkel, where we discussed current developments in Kosovo and the region and about the possibility of deepening cooperation between Kosovo and Germany. Chancellor expressed strong support for the reached progress in Kosovo, the efforts of the institutions of the country on fulfillment of the required criteria for visa liberalization,” Thaci said.
He added that he sees Chancellor’s special focus on Kosovo’s processes and the future of the region.
“There will be only movement forward for Kosovo and no setback under any circumstances. We also discussed the possibility of starting e new phase of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. I requested from Chancellor Merkel and her team to play an energetic role with her creativity and dynamics, equally as German state and the other partners in this process, in order for the relations between Kosovo and Serbia to pass from the past conflict ones and current status quo in a phase of complete normalization of a European relation of mutual interest and reconciliation between the two populations,” Thaci said.
“Kosovo welcomes the role of Chancellor Merkel, and from what I can understand, I believe that Serbia does too. Chancellor Merkel remains our hope, optimism and trust on the future of Kosovo and the entire Western Balkans. Both us and Serbia are aware that there is no European future for neither of the countries without good neighborly relations,” Thaci said.
He added that they also discussed Sofia Summit, where Kosovo will be represented equally as the other countries. Thaci informed that they also discussed trade exchange.
