Colonel Nick Ducic, the new commander of the US military base in Kosovo has assessed the situation in Kosovo as stable, noting that the crucial problems Kosovo is faced with are corruption and organized crime.

Speaking for Belgrade-based daily Vecernje novosti, Ducic has announced his soon visit to the central Serbia, where he will meet the Serbian Army’s representatives.

According to him, NATO-led international peacekeeping force, KFOR, is capable of securing the freedom of movement and safe environment in Kosovo, which they proved in a recent exercise.

“Constant improvements in Kosovo’s security organizations and significant success with multi-ethnic involvement only increase stability within the region,” Ducic was quoted as saying.

KFOR entered Kosovo in June 1999, two days after the adoption of a UN Security Council resolution and at the time Kosovo was facing a grave humanitarian crisis with military forces of then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Kosovo Liberation Army in daily engagement.

Today, KFOR focuses on building a secure environment in which all citizens, irrespective of their ethnic origins, can live in peace.
