Kosovo Prime Minister Adviser and national coordinator for fight against extremism, Lulzim Fushtica, said at the moment there are over 50 Kosovo citizens at foreign battlefields, while 78 have lost their lives in foreign warfare, Radio kontakt plus reported.

Fushtica presented this information on Wednesday at a conference held in Mitrovica North, organized by an NGO Kosovo Centre for Security Studies.

“We have a certain number of citizens who are still at these battlefields, we have 53, while 78 of them have been killed, and we have around 150 women and children who are in the hotspots of war in refugee camps” Fushtica said.

He added one of the biggest issues that should be dealt with in the coming period is the integration of people who are in jails for participating in foreign battlefields and the prevention of radicalism.

“Isis is not so active in Kosovo, but threats still exist and we will continue to work on prevention”, Fushtica said.

Participants at the conference also spoke about the strategy, which is part of the Kosovo government efforts to tackle the problem of violent extremism, radicalism and terrorism.

This conference is part of the project entitled “Supporting Kosovo Institutions in the Fight Against Organized Crime, Corruption and Violent Extremism”, supported by the European Union Office in Kosovo, Radio kontakt plus reported.
