Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, said on the 19th anniversary of the deployment of NATO troops in Kosovo, that on that day Kosovo entered a new era in history, liberation and freedom, thanks to the people’s resistance, the fight of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the support from the United States of America and EU member states and the NATO intervention. Thaci wrote in a Facebook post that Kosovo will be forever grateful to the contribution of democratic countries which in the most difficult days gave their diplomatic, military, humanitarian and material support. Thaci also said that the withdrawal of Serbian troops, the deployment of NATO troops and the return of the displaced marked the first steps of the rebuilding process. “Following a period of transition, Kosovo built democratic institutions and on February 17, 2008, declared its independence, thus achieving its second historic objective after liberation,” Thaci said. “Kosovo today aspires to join and integrate in the Euro-Atlantic institutions, including membership of all UN organizations, as all other free states and nations”.
