Radio Kosova reported that while the EU rule of law mission, EULEX, has assumed its new advisory role in Kosovo, it will continue to enjoy executive powers in certain cases. EULEX spokesperson, Donika Berisha-Rizaj the monitoring activities of the mission as well as its limited executive functions will be carried out by the monitoring and operational units. She said that although from now on all new criminal cases will be dealt with by Kosovo authorities, “in extraordinary circumstances, cases may be assigned to EULEX prosecutors or judges.” Nevertheless, Berisha-Rizaj said EULEX has faith in Kosovo institutions being able to do their job. Minister of Justice, Abelard Tahiri, also considers that Kosovo authorities are well-equipped to deal with all new cases.
