NATO’s Deputy Secretary General, Rose Gottemoeller, said the North-Atlantic Alliance supports creation of Kosovo’s army and added that this process should develop in accordance with the Constitution.
“It is important for Kosovo to continue with the process of reforms which includes professional security forces. We will continue to cooperate with Kosovo officials and support KFOR mission in Kosovo. I think that it is important to keep security of the region from the Bondsteel base and help creation of professional army of Kosovo,” Gottemoeller said on the verge of the NATO Summit in Brussels. She added that NATO strongly encourages resumption of the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue mediated by the EU. “We are aware of Kosovo’s aspiration for EU and NATO membership, however it takes a long journey to get there. It is important for Kosovo to continue dialogue with Belgrade and for it to be successful and to bring a solution,” she said.
