Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, issued today the following statement after an incident involving a Koha reporter on Wednesday. The reporter namely asked how he would react if Serbian President Vucic uses the same argument for northern Kosovo that Thaci is using for Presevo Valley, and Thaci said he does not speak on behalf of Vucic “as you and your media do”. Below is President Thaci’s statement today: “The final phase of dialogue for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is a sensitive and historical process for Kosovo. To all reporters, media and through them the people of Kosovo, this is going to be an open process. To increase transparency and to avoid misunderstandings and misinterpretation, I have held this month frequent press conferences to give the necessary explanations. I want to thank all media and reporters in Kosovo, for following the process of dialogue with professionalism this last week. In my meetings with reporters, I always try to be open and reply to every question or dilemma they have – related to the dilemma of the citizens of Kosovo. During yesterday’s conference, there was a misunderstanding with Koha Ditore reporter Fitim Gashi. I apologize to Fitim and to all those that may have felt insulted during the press conference, but this has and will never be my intention. In my path in politics for over two decades now, I have always respected the work of reporters, as one of the most important pillars of society. I encourage all reporters to continue asking questions and addressing dilemmas on all topics of national interest”.
