Bakir Izetbegovic, Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that there are no arguments to support comparisons between the status of Kosovo and that of Republika Srpska. Speaking to the Sarajevo-based paper Faktor, Izetbegovic said “there are no legal, historic, or moral arguments to link resolution of Serbia-Kosovo relations with Bosnia and its unit of Republika Srpska.” He said the idea that Serbs would have to compensate the loss of Kosovo with uniting Republika Srpska with Serbia is not new and has two goals. “One is short term – to scare the international community with a new destabilization of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Balkans and secure this way a more favourable solution for Serbia on the issue of Kosovo. Second is long term – to strengthen thesis that after the loss of Krajina and Kosovo, Serbs need to take something in return and they’re waiting for more favourable historic circumstances to achieve this – the weakening of European Union and NATO, by getting Serbia to Russia,” Izetbegovic said.
