Kosovo Assembly passed the three draft laws paving way for transformation of the Kosovo Security Force into a Kosovo army.
The first law foreseeing transformation of the Kosovo Security Force Ministry into a Ministry of Defence was supported by all 101 MPs present in the session while the second piece of legislation, that on Kosovo Security Force was passed by 101 MPs and none against. The final draft law relating to service with KSF was passed with 96 votes in favour and none against.
Earlier, Serbian List MPs walked out of the session of the Assembly in protest over the proposed legislation.
Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said at the Assembly that the new laws will enable KSF to protect Kosovo’s territorial integrity, citizens and communities, and to take part in peacekeeping operations. He assured all citizens of Kosovo that they have every reason to feel safe.
