As the prosecutor at the Hague-based Specialist Chambers visited Kosovo for the first time, Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said there is a sense of scepticism about the new court that will try suspects for wartime crimes.
Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said after Specialist Prosecutor Jack Smith visited Kosovo on Tuesday that the new Hague-based Specialist Chambers, which are expected to try former Kosovo Liberation Army figures for wartime crimes, have caused scepticism.
“Kosovo indeed has obligations towards the Specialist Chambers as they were established under Kosovo laws. However, based on previous experience there is also a sense of scepticism about these processes involving international justice,” Haradinaj told media.
Smith was appointed the new Specialist Prosecutor of the Hague-based Kosovo Specialist Chambers & Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in May after his predecessor retired.
