In Kosovo over the last years there are, in average, 30 attacks against journalists, and since the beginning of this year there have been 13 attacks. Most of these cases remain unresolved, while attackers go unpunished, President of the Association of Journalists of Serbia in Kosovo, Budimir Nicic told RTV KIM.
Nicic also recalled unresolved cases of murdered and missing media professionals in Kosovo.
On the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, Nicic also reminded about 14 cases of missing and murdered journalists in Kosovo.
“None of these cases have been resolved up to date. That is why our stance, stance of our Association, but also of our colleagues from Pristina and Association of Journalists of Kosovo, is that Kosovo is one of the least safe places for the work of journalists in this part of Europe,” Nicic said.
“To support this claim, we can take data from Kosovo police that marked journalism as a high-risk proffesion in Kosovo,” Nicic added.
It is also disappointing, that if a court proceeding takes place following the attack against journalists, perpetrators usually receive minimal or financial punishment, Nicic underlined.
