During the weekend, all Serbian media quoted a statement from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the property of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) in Kosovo, where it was said that the situation is concerning and that the practice of usurpation of the property continues.

The Ministry listed, as an example, the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Holy Paraskeva, which are no longer found in the local cadastre documents in Pec as the property of the SPC, it was published on the website of the Russian Ministry.

“We consider that this situation is, among other things, the result of the non-canonical steps of the Constantinople Patriarchate in relation to Orthodoxy in Ukraine. There have been deteriorating politicized approaches to canonical Orthodox structures as well as violations of their legal rights,” the statement said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry in connection with this urged UNMIK to exert pressure on the Kosovo authorities to protect the legitimate interests and rights of the SPC in Kosovo.
