Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said today that he sought support in Paris to strengthen peace through the EU-brokered dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. Thaci wrote in a Facebook post that “the opponents of peace are aware that a peace agreement between Kosovo and Serbia would hamper their destructive plan”. Thaci wrote: “At the Peace Forum in Paris, I sought support for our and Europe’s efforts to strengthen peace through the EU-brokered dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. The citizens of the Balkans are very familiar with the conflict of interests, influences and ideologies. But the democratic world must not allow destructive forces to prevail over the minds and capitals of the Balkans, Europe and beyond. The opponents of peace are aware that a peace agreement between Kosovo and Serbia would hamper their destructive plan, a plan that aims to break Europe, to ruin democratic standards, to deceive and divide Europeans and to impose an old moral that previous generations have suffered. But while they know very well why they oppose peace between Kosovo and Serbia, we also know very well why we need to engage with all our strength to ensure peace. Our peoples owe it to themselves and to future generations to erase the frontline that has hurt our region for centuries. We owe it to Europe too, because this is the only way that can guarantee the freedom of our citizens, respect for basic human rights and the economic development of our countries”.
