Today, one important human right is forgotten, and it is the right to truth, International Law Professor, Tibor Varadi told FoNet news agency, adding that delineation with Kosovo “would mean that Kosovo is a state, because borders are regulated among the states.”
He further said that delineation is a rather complex issue, in particular “in the context of international geopolitical interests, but also interests of some states and their officials.”
“Individual interests of some high state officials are presented as the interests of the states, and it is not always the case,” Varadi assessed.
He further explained that the concept of delineation means that “Kosovo is a state, because negotiations about the borders are possible among the states only.” However, “if Kosovo is part of Serbia, then there are no negotiations about borders,” Varadi said, adding that delineation if it would happen “would be implicit acceptance that Kosovo is a state.”
He sees Kosovo as “one of the most serious issues” in particular in the context of nationalism and fact there is a Serb minority in Kosovo.” He also thinks that the problem could be resolved in two ways.
“The first one is a brutal act that involves exchange and ethnic principle, and the second one would be a rather serious and wide autonomy for the Serbs in Kosovo and special protection measures for the Serbian cultural heritage.”
He also opined if the problem is not solved by Serbia and Kosovo, then the solution of the international community would be imposed and added “the chance for solution should be given to those who are directly interested in it.”
