At the working meeting for “Journalists’ working conditions” organized by the OSCE, was said that journalists in Kosovo are facing violation of their rights as well as lack of working conditions.

Ardiana Thaci-Mehmeti from the Kosovo Association of Journalists said due to the eventual punishments by the employers, journalists hesitate to report these violations.

Kaltrina Hoxha from OSCE said journalists have reported during the last years about lack of working conditions, additional hours of unpaid work, for being on trial for 12 months despite their capability to do their job.

Zeljko Tvrdisic from Radio Kontakt Plus said working schedule at his working place is arranged based on working regulation.

Speaking about working conditions, he said institutions should deal with improvement of the current situation.

“Additional work is usually foreseen for other projects and it is paid. Of course salaries can sometimes be higher but I believe that we stand at average of Kosovo salaries. I must say that I am quite pessimistic when it is spoken about minor Serb media because number of donors  is continuously decreasing, and the market is not sufficiently sustainable. In general, working conditions are far from what they should be,” he said.
