Decision of Pristina authorities to increase taxes by 100 percent for the goods from central Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, entered into force yesterday, immediately after its adoption, Serbian media report.

Representatives of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija will discuss this with the President of Serbia during the meeting that was scheduled today. Chairperson of Srpska Lista, Goran Rakic said he will familiarize President Vucic with the situation on the ground, adding that Serbian representatives will be with their people.

Rakic said he expects the President Vucic would use his diplomatic power and inform the international community of the kind of institutional violence Serbian people face, and that the international community would influence Pristina to revoke its decisions.

He pointed out consequences were already felt on the ground and underlined that “there was no alternative market and Serbian products are the cheapest and the best”. “Serbs live much harder and as early as tomorrow a humanitarian crisis threatens to break out,” Rakic warned. He added they would not be passive but would react in an adequate way.

“Srpska Lista acts as an opposition for a long period of time, and it is the only opposition, because when it comes to the interest of Serbian people, the Albanian parties join in and vote against decisions that would allow better life of Serbs in Kosovo, although the better life of Serbs does not mean a worse life for Albanians,” Rakić noted.

When asked if staying in the Pristina institutions makes sense, Rakic said it would be the easiest thing to leave them, but then the Serbian voice would not be heard.

“We will fight in difficult conditions, citizens have given us support and, in their name, we will continue the fight. We will work courageously as we have until now,” Rakic concluded.
