Igor Soltes, the European Parliament’s Rapporteur for Kosovo, told the news website today that the European Union must keep its promise and give visa liberalization to Kosovo because all the requirements have been met. Asked if the continuous delay of visa liberalization could make Kosovars seek alternative routes to leave their country because of the grave social, economic and political situation, Soltes said the EU Council must understand the consequences. Soltes said he fully understands Kosovo’s frustration with the blockades but added that authorities in Pristina should not take radical measures. “I fully understand Kosovo’s reaction the recent blockades, but it should take fewer radical measures for the sake of normalization of relations. Kosovo’s reaction is understandable but at the same time it is no right. At the same time, the European Union is delaying a decision on visa liberalization … We need to make it clear that good neighborly relations in the region have crucial importance, therefore, parties involved in the process must try to normalize relations and resume dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. This is the only way to reach a peace agreement, which would bring progress and improve the situation in the region,” Soltes said.
